Okay, I am SO FUCKING SICK AND TIRED of those ignorant people out there who think that My Chemical Romance are a band that promote suicide and self-mutilation.
Somewhat recently, a teenager named Hannah Bond hung herself. She was what the media and many other people would label, an "emo". After her death, her parents and articles blamed the "emo" fashion and the popular alternative rock band My Chemical Romance for her death. Apparently, she began listening to My Chem about two weeks prior to her death, and it is believed by many IGNORANT people that their music contributed largely to her suicide.
WHICH IS ABSOLUTE BULLSHIT. I am FURIOUS that people blame a band that is FIERCLY oposed to suicide and self-harm and even has a message after one of their music videos that SAYS that suicide isn't the answer. The last song on My Chemical Romance's album(The Black Parade), "Famous Last Words" features the lyric, "I am NOT afraid to keep on living".The journalists who have written the aforementioned articles OBVIOUSLY barely bothered to make half-assed attempts at researching My Chemical Romance, as one article, written by a Mr. Andrew Levy, MISQUOTED a line from the My Chem single,"Welcome to the Black Parade". The same article said that The Black Parade is where all emos think they go when they die.
AGAIN,BULLSHIT. And even if certain teenagers think this, WHY is it being seen as a bad thing? Such a conception is a way to deal with death, to accept it. These STUPID people just wanted someone, anyone to blame for this girl's death. And because she wore black clothing and listened to rock music, they used MCR as a scapegoat. Things like this have been going on for years. As one commentator on the articles so rightly said, "Time to blame My Chemical Romance instead of Marilyn Manson now?"
Even if this girl did somehow believe that My Chemical Romance encouraged her to commit suicide, she sorely miconstrued their message and lyrics, as My Chem's goal is, and always has been, to SAVE lives and encourage people to GET HELP if you need it.
Come on idiots, stop looking for someone to blame! Just because you don't understand why something happened doesn't mean that you should wrongly affix blame to someone because it's convienent!!!
